When is the best time to visit Atacama Desert?
The
Atacama Desert is a fascinating region in South America. The main village to
visit this place is San Pedro de Atacama in northern Chile. Can you imagine
somewhere that has never seen any rain in over 300 years? Indeed, can you
believe this arid place has so many wonderful and diverse landscapes to be
seen? This is a destination definitely not to be missed.
The temperature, as in any desert, has a wide variation during the day. It means that it will probably be very hot during the day and cold at night.
Summer (December
– February)
At
this season, the very rear rains can happen in some parts of the desert. This
phenomenon is known as the altiplanic winter. It is not something you should
worry about, you could actually testify something the locals expect a lot.
Autumn (March –
May)
It is a perfect time to visit
Atacama Desert! The temperature is mild during the day and not so cold at
night. You will probably find a beautiful blue sky.
Winter (June – August)
It
is a busy season. A lot of people are attracted by the pleasant temperature
during the day, which is generally around 22ºC. However, at night it is
expected below zero temperatures.
Spring (September
– November)
The
temperature is similar to autumn. In September sandstorm can happen, but it is
very rare.
